Forsyth County AuxComm – ARES is 100% volunteer, community funded and tax neutral. Neither the foundation nor our members are paid for our services by any agency or organization. In fact, by law we are prohibited from charging our services. However, that does not minimize the importance of our mission, the dedication and professionalism of our personnel or the cost of providing this vital community service. Currently we rely on volunteer members to provide their personally owned equipment to meet the needs of our missions. As such this requires equipment swaps during these operations which can cause emergency messages to be slowed and missed or even not having the right equipment for mission success. We are hoping to change this in 2026.
To support the mission of Forsyth County AuxComm – ARES we have established a permanently installed communications console in the Winston-Salem / Forsyth County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and our now focusing on increasing our ability to better serve our partners with mobile operations and critical unified interoperability communications systems.
Our goal for 2026 is to raise $50,000 to enable us to build and equip a self-contained, all-weather, and fully equipped mobile Operations Trailer. This will ensure consistent and reliable support regardless of the environment, personnel changes, or equipment availability. The trailer will be outfitted with unit-owned equipment, ensuring members are fully trained and capable of always maintaining operations. Additionally, the Operations Trailer will add a unified interoperability communications capability, which currently does not exist and is critically needed, enabling us to communicate directly with public safety agencies and other non-public safety entities such as Baptist Men’s, Salvation Army, Red Cross and more.
